Coming Up: Rare Model Train and Toy Auction

September 21, 2017

Rare and one-of-a-kind model trains will be among the hobby treasures offered for sale at a September 30 auction in Chambersburg. Gateway Gallery Auction, 643 Kriner Road, is selling a Mickey Mouse train set circa 1935, a custom painted Alco Brass Delaware & Hudson, an AMT set of PRR passenger train cars as well as a vintage Pierce Cycle Co. Buffalo NY Tried and True Racer bicycle.

The sale will begin at 10 a.m. and feature the train and toy collection of the late Karl Burkhardt (TCA# HR-71-4073). Burkhardt’s collection includes an extensive assortment of AMT (American Model Toys) and Kris Model Trains with many examples of passenger car sets and a wide array of boxcars with many road names represented. The sale, also, includes HO gauge trains with Reading and Western Maryland road names, and some brass items.

Collectors of Lionel and American Flyer trains will find motorized units, handcars and trolleys and more. There is a wide range of toys featuring a nice selection of Dinky and Marklin vehicles. Other notable names include Hubley, Winross, Vintage Hess Trucks and Dealer Promo cars.

Heather Kohler, auctioneer at Gateway, comments, “We anticipate bidders to be participating from all over the country as Mr. Burkhardt was a long standing and very active TCA member. Several items in his collection may be one-of-a-kind or very few manufactured.”

Approximately 87 uncataloged lots will be available to in-house bidders following the cataloged items. These include HO, Lionel & American Flyer train parts, HO Houses, toy parts, train & toy train magazines, catalogs, VHS tapes, transformers, Erector set parts, dolls, Plasticville, electrical parts for layouts, books, Hallmark items & much more.

For a complete listing, view www.gatewayauction.com or call 263-6512 or 1-800-315-3265 for more information. There will be an opportunity to view the items prior to the sale, both online and at the auction location. Bidding will occur in-person and online.
